Food analysis and diagnostics are hot topics at analytica China 2014

analytica China, International Trade Fair for laboratory technology, analysis, biotechnology and diagnostics, opens its gates at the Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC) for the seventh time from September 24–26, 2014. This year's focus topics are food analysis and diagnostics. Among other things, they will be depicted by a number of new developments that exhibitors are presenting.

Food analysis: A future-oriented topic

In the food-analysis sectors, the trend toward faster, automated measurements is stronger than ever. At analytica China, Elementar will present Rapid N exceed, a nitrogen/protein analyzer that can analyze proteins in less than four minutes. The device is suitable for constant 24/7 operation, reduces analysis costs and increases sample throughput. Omnilab, on the other hand, is simplifying food analysis with its FoodALYT software. The new software automatically records data that are then analyzed using specific devices from the FoodALYT series. On-site analysis is also getting easier and easier: The Spin Track NMR spectrometer from HMR Co. Ltd. is even available as a portable unit. It can be used for all standard NMR measurements and can identify fat and water content in various foods and feedstuffs, among other things.

Chromatography, which is still a standard method in food analysis, is also making great advances when it comes to speed and resolution. Fortis' core shell technology Speedcore for HPLC and UHPLC is making even faster, higher-performance separations possible—and not just in food analysis.

Advances in medical diagnostics

analytica China will also take into account constantly increasing demand for analysis equipment and laboratory accessories for medical diagnostics in Asia. Hettich's EBA 280 and EBA 280 S small centrifuges can be used to centrifuge the blood samples of emergency patients in a matter of minutes. The trick: Six different rotors are available that are extremely easy to change—using just one hand and no tools.

Other accessories for diagnostics laboratories will also be presented at analytica China. Cyanagen is optimizing Western blots with its new Westar Ecl-Sun substrate, and Ritter is presenting deepwell plates and other products for laboratory robots. Optika's Series B-380 microscopes are powerful instruments for routine applications.

analytica China will also allow visitors to gather information about the entire range of new developments that are intended to make routine laboratory tasks more efficient. Besides manufacturers of analysis equipment and laboratory technology, rose plastic will also be represented at the fair. Among other things, the packaging manufacturer will be in Shanghai to present its BlockPack plastic box, which received the 2014 WorldStar Packaging Award.
