LUX biotechnology announces appointments to Advisory Board
Julian Cooper joins the Advisory Board following a successful career in the pharmaceutical industry, showing proven ability in strategic and operational management roles. Performing at management and board level in Amersham plc and GE Healthcare, he has experience in managing growth from small companies to FTSE100 performers.
Professor Ian Collins brings extensive experience and knowledge of the oil and gas sector to the Advisory Board following 19 years experience with BP. His expertise in oilfield chemistry is illustrated by his authorship or co-authorship of over 80 technical publications and by the 28 patents bearing his name as inventor.
Julian Cooper worked as General Manager (Integration) in GE Healthcare from 2004-6 managing the integration of this new division following the acquisition of Nycomed Amersham plc and generating £37m of operational savings. Prior to that he was VP Strategic Initiatives for Discovery Systems where he transformed it from a loss-maker to break even within two years, and also as VP Human Resources for Amersham Biosciences - both divisions of Nycomed Amersham plc before its acquisition. His earlier career stages at the company's previous incarnation, Amersham plc, were as Director of Group Human Resources, Global Commercial Controller, and Group Commercial Services Manager. Earlier in the company's history, he was European Controller with financial control over European operations, Marketing Services Manager all after joining the company as a Management Accountant (International) in 1984. Before joining Amersham plc he worked for Babcock International and Glynwed Internation, and began his career with the TI Group.
Professor Ian Collins is a Technology Program Manager within BP's Pushing Reservoir Limits Technology Leadership Area (based within BP's Exploration & Production Technology Group at Sunbury-on-Thames, UK) which focuses on developing and deploying Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology. Prior to his current role, he was project manager for BP's scale-related research & development activities and was BP's Subject Matter Expert in scale management. He has 19 years experience with BP. Ian is an honorary (visiting) professor at the Institute of Petroleum Engineering at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh. At Heriot Watt, he collaborates with the Flow Assurance and Scale Team within the Institute, supervises Masters student projects, and teaches an EOR course to the Petroleum Engineering Masters students. He is the author or co-author of more than 90 technical publications and is named as an inventor on 28 patents and patent applications. He was an SPE Distinguished Lecturer during 2005-2006 where he lectured on the topic of "Scale Management: A New Era". He is a Review Chair for SPE Production & Facilities Journal where he is responsible for chemistry-based papers. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and is both a Chartered Chemist and a Chartered Scientist.
