Thermo Fisher Scientific elects new director

Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. announced that it has elected William G. Parrett to its board of directors, bringing the company's total number of directors to 11. Mr. Parrett has also been appointed to the board's Audit Committee.

Mr. Parrett enjoyed a 40-year career at professional services firm Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, most recently serving as global chief executive officer from 2003 until his mandatory retirement in 2007. Among his many achievements at Deloitte, Mr. Parrett co-founded its Global Financial Services Industry practice and served as its first chairman. He transformed the firm's capabilities and brand to set a new standard of excellence in the industry, and led Deloitte's aggressive expansion into new markets, such as China and India.

Bill is an exceptional leader whose vision drove him to seek out opportunities at a time of unprecedented challenges in his industry, resulting in the creation of a professional services powerhouse, said Jim P. Manzi, chairman of the board of Thermo Fisher Scientific. Bill's vast experience will be a tremendous asset to our board.

Among his many interests, Mr. Parrett is a member of the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Executive Board for the International Chamber of Commerce. He also serves as chairman of the United States Council for International Business as well as the United Way of America.
